Never one to settle for the standard, compilation CD pioneer Renaissance has begun a new series - 3D. The new line kicks off with Japanese transplant, now New York resident, Satoshi Tomiie. Satoshi has been on the world scene for a number of years, playing to the world over while maintaining his status in NYC’s Def Mix collective, producing and remixing tune after tune, and running his SAW.Recordings label. The package contains three discs (3D - get it?) and serves to exemplify all the strengths of Satoshi’s career. The premier disc, entitled “Club,” contains tracks that are found in Tomiie’s recent playlists. Disc two, “Studio,” serves as a retrospective of his studio work, including seven remixes and re-edits of his work including “Love and Traffic,” the stand out tune of John Digweed’s Global Underground: Los Angeles. Additionally, there are other works by respected artists such as Photek, Kosheen, and Hybrid. The final CD, “Home,” serves as a back to mine type of chill out disc, which Satoshi culled from years of record buying.“It takes a unique artist to qualify for 3D,” says Renaissance’s director Geoff Oakes. “They need a major body of studio work, a high-profile performing schedule and the depth of musical knowledge to put together an interesting mix of home favourites. Given this criteria, Satoshi was an obvious choice.”
